Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The virtual event started at 1pm. The afternoon kicked off with introductions and an overview of what Amazon looks for in their employees. There was a break and then the hackathon commenced on the platform, Hackerrank. It was a fun yet difficult challenge. After the hackathon finished, we had a short break before the winners were announced and the day came to a close.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very insightful as I was unaware of the many different branches within Amazon such as Prime Video and Alexa Shopping. I now know the different careers available within the company.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed my problem solving skills as I was challenged to think outside of the box to be able to come up with unconventional solutions. At the same time, I had to also keep account of the time so time management played a great factor in ensuring I was spending equal amounts of effort on the different problems.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very friendly. Whenever anyone had a problem during the hackathon, the hosts were very accommodating. The company culture is evidently strong and inclusive.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight as I have not yet had the chance to participate in a hackathon before. It was different to then just being talked to as the participants like myself could really get involved. It was very fun and I would recommend any of my peers to attend.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
I would recommend anyone of any coding ability to just apply. Although the challenge was difficult, it is better to try than to not try at all. From having little programming expereince, I still found this event fun and insightful. Any future participants should keep an open mind and apply nonetheless.
