Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

On a daily basis, I sat with my principals in my practice area and got on with the work that graduate recruitment had sent to us. There were socials quite often. I had coffee chats with people across the firm and we had multiple talks outlining the strategy of the firm and the practice areas that the firm worked in.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

It was really insightful. Everyone was so willing to speak with me about their roles across practice areas as well as getting me involved directly in work when they could. I was able to see how everyone interacted as a team across the firm and see how it came together as one big product for the client. This includes horizontally across the practice areas as well as vertically, how everyone added value from the partners to the trainees.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt the value of being structured and concise when drafting documents. I developed my communication skills working in a team. I developed my evaluation skills in the tasks given by my principal. The importance of presenting for the client pitch exercise was really helpful. My legal research skills were vastly improved by multiple tasks.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

It was extremely collaborative and welcoming. It was extremely diverse and inclusive to people from all walks of life. You can tell how the firm prioritises excellence from everyone, yet is understanding as to mistakes, especially as one grows in the firm. Everyone seems genuinely interested in developing their own career as well as helping others in the development of theirs. The collaborative atmosphere comes from the top down, with the one firm approach that is really helpful.
