Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Conduct an analysis of how changing the firm's approach to modelling applicants' income tax payments will affect the firm's lending. This involves pulling data using SQL and using JupyterLab+Excel to conduct analysis.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

A lot of responsibility was given to me. My project and the recommendations that I presented are key to the firm's lending decision frameworks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I had formal training sessions (similar to lectures) on technical skills such as SQL, Excel and Python. There were also sessions to introduce interns to the different teams in the department, as well as presentation skills training.
A lot of the learning was also done on the job.

I received plenty of support and guidance during my internship. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. My team taught me technical skills on the job, and took time to help me sharpen my soft skills.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

People in Capital One are very friendly and approachable. This made the internship experience very pleasant and allowed me to be unafraid to seek help.
