Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On a day-to-day basis I would attend meetings with my team, draft planning applications or planning statements, research new planning policy updates/changes and contact clients or councils.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was responsible for drafting and submitting planning applications. Additionally, I was responsible for monitoring the applications once submitted. I was also responsible for completing research tasks to help my team with large scale projects.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have developed my verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, I have improved on my attention to detail and active listening skills. I became competent in Promap, a GIS mapping tool commonly used in planning. I also developed networking skills.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was greatly supported during my placement, my team encouraged me to ask questions relating to the planning system. Also, I did not feel overwhelmed by the workload as it was reviewed before submitting to the councils or clients.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very friendly, I felt welcomed from the first day I started. I felt like I was part of the team even though my contract was temporary.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement and am grateful for the opportunity. My team was welcoming, which encouraged me to work in the office. Although my workload was varied, it was not always consistent. This fluctuation was due to the number of projects my team was handling.

What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
I would advise them to have some work experience in either the public or private planning sector. Additionally, I would encourage students to take modules at university focusing on planning law.
