Supply Chain Review

I work in cross-functional teams on a variety of projects related to digital initiatives. On a day to day basis this involves meetings and check ins with core team members to update each other on progress, taking part in digital councils sharing experiments that happen across our global sites. The aim is to identify high value and scalable technological use cases so that people's lives are made easier, safer and bring business value.

I was given much responsibility in various ways. For example, I was given the responsibility to pioneer the use of robotic process automation technology within the Consumer Healthcare business. This involved reaching out to people at all levels of the business, creating collaboration opportunities, doing presentations to 40+ people and the independence to try out different strategies all the while having the coaching and support of my line manager in weekly check ins.

The main skills I have developed are collaboration, communication, critical thinking, presentation and networking skills. This stems from working with a variety of people on topics which may have been completely unfamiliar to me previously so it is important to be able to learn quickly, have an agile approach, be transparent, trustworthy and accountable for your actions. As well as the courage to speak up.

Individual weekly check ins with my line manager and other touchpoints in meetings. Often a similar level of support from a second manager whose project I was supporting or managing. My manager always made himself available for any questions, queries and regularly enquired as to how I was finding the workload and cared about my wellbeing in the process. He would often pass on names of others in the business who may be able to help me in a certain context for further conversations.

Friendly, welcoming, supportive of placement students and their development. For example, taking the time to answer any questions I had, bring me up to speed, encouraging me to go outside my comfort zone, very collaborative, transparent. It seemed to me that the people I worked with lives up to GSK's values.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement due to the variety of projects I was able to get involved in. My line manager was interested in understanding where my interests lie in order to best support me in developing those or other useful skills by getting me involved in projects related to my development goals. I have formed strong connections and expanded my network which has broadened my perspective and helped me identify my next steps.
