Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Evenly split between Actuarial and Investment teams.For IC, we normally are drafting paperwork such as quarterly and strategic reports. For AC, we do more calculation work, which either entails calculating transfer values for individuals along with calculating funding levels.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

We were given important tasks to complete that would be seen by the client. All this work is peer-reviewed by at least 2 senior employees. We were also allowed to join client meetings.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Excel and computing skills have definitely improved along with drafting reports. Communication and time management skills have also been key as we have quite quick deadlines and turnarounds for certain jobs.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

A lot of support from colleagues ranging from partners down to graduates. There is a very flat structure and evryone is willing to give advice and take time to answer any questions.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Lots of socials that take place. The offices are all very friendly and welcoming when you visit. During the internship, there were company-wide netball and football tournaments.
