LGIM Risk Intern Review

Primarily working within the business risk division overseeing investment, financial and ESG risk. Day-to-day consisted of creating documents such as committee agendas and quarterly department reviews. This was achieved by communicating with different teams to collate information in a clear and concise way. There was also the opportunity to work within compliance teams and oversee fund documentation. Lastly, we participated in an investment pitch project throughout so there was often research to be done for this.

I was given many tasks that helped to expand my knowledge of the department as a whole and provided me with a high level overview of Risk and Compliance. I mainly completed tasks for the CRO Business Manager but also got to work with the CRO directly and many other members of the team. It felt like my work was important and valued by the team rather than being an afterthought that didn't lead to anything which helped to motivate me.

I have developed my IT skills by using excel for a number of different purposes and ensuring documents are easily accessible. The internship has also developed my research skills through the project as I gathered information on our topic and condensed it down into key points. Collaboration has been imperative as much of the work requires correspondence with other members of the department and seeking their position in certain projects.

Though it feels as though you are thrown in at the deep end, all members of the team were happy to help and assist if something was difficult. Even senior members of the team would find time to advise and support if you asked and people at LGIM are really easy to reach out to.

The culture at L&G is really impressive. As mentioned before, it is easy to reach out to anyone in the business and organise a chat if you're interested in their area. People are very welcoming and friendly.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at L&G. I was nervous that a lack of investment knowledge would make it difficult for me to get on with the work but with help from the team I learnt very quickly and got to participate in important tasks. The people have been friendly and get the interns involved in as much as possible which makes the experience very collegiate.
