Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

After training, we had daily stand-ups where the team members would discuss what we would be doing that day. We then would get on with our coding which would be very dependent on what project we were working on, adding features, creating pages, making tests. But there was always something to do!

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

We were all but on projects after training, either external or internal, and we would be adding features and pages that would be going live on the applications, so we were given real responsibility. but if we ever felt uncomfortable, then we had plenty of support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

The training program alone was amazing and allowed me to understand the integration between frontend, backend, databases and APIs. I came in only knowing the basics of coding but now feel comfortable doing full stack development. And then your time on projects also dramatically increases your skills even further.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

The support was amazing! We each had a project manager who we could go to about our project work, but we could also go to pretty much any employee on the project and they were always happy to help. There were people dedicated to helping us in training so we always had someone to go to. We also all had a line manager, who we had weekly status chats with, who we could go to for more personal matters.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture at ghyston is the best I have ever seen, everyone genuinely treats you like a friend and you can strike up a conversation with everyone. There are so many social activities that you can go to including the summer party. a BBQ, a pizza meal and a bowling afternoon, all paid for!
