Finance Summer Intern Review

My task was to help the Energy Marketing and Trading Financial Control team with their month end processes and key tasks, so a variety of tasks using Excel and software such as SAP and Endur. Also attending team meetings and learning more about what the team does, as well as conducting research into different aspects of the business unit. Had interactions with my line manager on a daily basis and members of the team.

I would say so, as I was making valuable contributions to the team in what was an extremely busy period for them. So it was critical for me to get things right and make sure I was efficiently asking for help if required. Also during the charity challenge it was crucial for me to be professional and carry Centrica's reputation throughout.

I have learnt key excel skills, which I didn't have before, as well as my personal development such as self-confidence, communication and teamwork. Using new software has also helped me to develop digitally and learn a sense of commercial awareness and priorities.

I received plenty of support, both within my team and outside. I received help in terms of developing my soft and hard skills, as well as on specific tasks when I wasn't sure what to do.

I found a great atmosphere, quite relaxed and amicable, but also focused when it needed to be. This was great as I experienced both scenarios and as a result I developed overall in a better sense.

I thoroughly enjoyed the internship, meeting all the interns and everyone at the company. I enjoyed the atmosphere here, as well as the responsibilities and roles given to me during my time here. Having the chance to branch beyond my daily role whilst doing the charity challenge was a fantastic experience.
