Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I had a couple of large projects which I worked on throughout the whole duration of my internship, as well as some additional work as it came up. The work involved, for example, speaking to internal and external stakeholders, attending meetings, researching, and creating and presenting proposals.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I worked on projects with complete autonomy to propose my own ideas and make changes. I was encouraged to speak up in meetings, and lead them when possible. Coming into this internship, we were told we would get to have real responsibility, and it is definitely very true, it's almost surprising even though they tell you!

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
So many. This internship has really helped me to develop my confidence, communication, and public speaking skills, as well as other soft and hard skills. The support within Centrica is amazing, and interns are encouraged to use their voice and share their ideas, which has really helped my confidence. We also had structured training sessions, like Excel and Presentation training.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Centrica has been very "open doors" with all of us interns. The support from the Early Careers team, my manager, and wider team was incredible. They really nurture an environment where you can grow without fear of failure. We also had a graduate buddy, as well as our line manager and teams, who we could go to for a chat, who really helped me and encouraged me a lot. I never felt scared to ask for help.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Centrica has a really amazing company culture, where everyone is approachable, from the CEO to the other interns, it was nice to be able to chat with anyone. They are also really big on recognition, and it is so nice to be frequently recognised for demonstrating the Centrica values, which they really do hold at the core of everything they do. Everyone is so friendly and approachable.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved it! I had an amazing summer. Everything from the support and people, to the work itself was really enjoyable. I got to work on projects with responsibility and autonomy, and was encouraged to share my views, ideas, and thoughts.

What advice would you give to others applying to Centrica
Be yourself! Make sure you look into Centrica's values, and be sure that you align with those, as they really are important to the company. The application process, especially the assessment centre, is really enjoyable, and everyone is so kind, so don't worry! If you think Centrica might be a fit for you, don't hesitate to apply, as they really have exceeded all of my expectations.
