Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Worked as a project manager in the digital channels pace. Working with our teams managing the company's live chat bot, Cosmo, and WhatsApp to deliver new advancements in this area. I managed 5 projects, ensuring deadlines were met, milestones were kept up to date and my projects were within governance. BAU tasks included approving expenses, time sheets and being part of daily meetings. I also had the responsibility for escalating issues to senior leaders.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a huge amount of responsibility taking on a real, vital role within the company taking over from a fulltime employee at the start of my placement and completing a handover at the end. I was listened to by key stakeholders and despite being an intern I never felt I was treated as one. I had the chance to speak to directors and have them consider and action my ideas and thoughts.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I've had the chance to grow as a communicator both verbal and written by communicating with colleagues up to director level. I have developed my organisational skills in the workplace and had a chance to improve my presentation skills. My industry specific knowledge multiplied tenfold and I was given exposure to new software like ServiceNow as well as being upskilled in Microsoft Excel.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There was a comprehensive induction week at the start of the placement which set us up, not only, with a full understanding of the company but also introduced us to a group of interns and early careers advisors that were on hand throughout the entire placement to support.
My line manager was also incredibly supportive both on a personal level and professional one.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Absolutely amazing!
I came into this company having heard rumours of interns at other company's being burnt out.
At Centrica there is a real emphasis on employee wellbeing, chats to bond with colleagues on non-work matters, we were encouraged not to work past 6 and not to touch our laptops on weekends which is a breath of fresh air compared to a culture where you are shamed for not working overtime.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
This placement was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. From the fellow interns that I met and befriended, to the genuine desire from my manager to succeed it was incredible.
There was a family feeling in the organisation and a real effort from the early careers team to make the internship both fun and insightful.
