Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My day-to-day role included working for Hive as a commercial intern on behalf of their subscription service Hive Heating Plus. I completed weekly digital reporting on Hive's KPIs, reporting back to stakeholders. I also researched, designed and implemented acquisition, engagement and retainment techniques to improve the software's performance. Further assisted with commercial activities like the Hive summer sale, Winter heating campaign and completing competitor analyses.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of real value adding responsibility within my internship. My tasks/ideas were taken seriously and my input was added into the company roadmap for the following quarter. I felt like I was a valued member of my team even for the short amount of time I was on the internship.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Developed many new digital skills gaining experience of Excel, Miro, Figma, Adobe Analytics and more. Really developed my presentation skills, learning how to make concise and effective presentations to communicate my ideas to key stakeholders. The skill I really developed though was confidence, my line manager was so supportive and empowered me to contribute and even present to my team.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There were so many avenues for support within this internship. I felt I had multiple people to go to if I ever had any queries or concerns. We had graduate talent managers who guided us through the process, buddy's who we'd have weekly catch up with, and the amazing early careers team who ran the programme seamlessly and were always accessible to contact and bring up any issues to.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company had a really positive and inclusive culture. Flexible and remote working made my role much more manageable and set great expectations for work-life balance. Furthermore, the company has a strong internal community, with employee networks, volunteering opportunities and a positive outlook making everyone feel welcome.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I greatly enjoyed my internship. Throughout the 9 weeks I gained a noticeable gain of confidence and learned so many industry-specific skills that I will bring forward into my future career. I greatly enjoyed all the social and CSR initiatives I got to get involved with, and felt I really became part of the community. I really have no complaints.

What advice would you give to others applying to Centrica
Really hone into the company's values and culture. Showcase how you'll be able to engage with the company's community feel and add real value to the business. I'd also say a passion for NetZero and sustainability really comes into play- so researching and being aware of industry developments is important too.
