Commerical Marketing Internship Review

My role was a digital content role, making changes to the British Gas Business website, and daily this involved analysing customer interaction data with the website and proposing changes to the website. As the placement went on, it also involved understanding how to use Adobe Experience Management to make the changes myself. One of my projects involved a competitor analysis in order to compare against other companies and make content recommendations. Overall it was a fantastic role.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of responsibility I was given. Rather than being treated like an intern, I was treated as an equal to my colleagues and they valued my opinion from the start. I think Centrica have managed to strike the perfect balance between giving me responsibilities, but also ensuring that I know I have support if I need it. It was great to see the independence I was given and my value.

During this placement, I learnt a plethora of new skills. In terms of technical skills, I learnt new marketing software including adobe analytics, adobe experience management and also jira software. For soft skills, my self development has grown massively and I have gained confidence, organisation skills with adhering to tight deadlines, and also social skills and networking through the amount of people I met during the placement!

I received immense support during the internship. The early careers team were fantastic throughout the process and always acted as a place I could go when I had any questions. The system at Centrica really fosters support, and alongside my manager, my buddy and Graduate Talent Managers were always available when I needed help. Additionally my manager was such a fantastic support system for me - she acted as a mentor for me and made me feel so comfortable.

The company culture was fantastic at Centrica. They really place value on the working culture as a whole not just the role. It was lovely to see the different networks I could get involved in and the Centrica values really shone through in all of the people I spoke to. Everyone I spoke to was so friendly and willing to help, and there is a really friendly atmosphere at the company.

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to gain some experience and exposure in marketing. The early careers team have made the experience so fantastic and it really feels like a family at Centrica. I genuinely have learnt so much that will guide me into my career and also I feel that I have developed massively as a person.
