Process Engineering Summer Intern Review

I worked on a group project with 2 other summer interns. My team were completing calculations from standards using data that we collected for one of the companies sites. The results from these calculations were then used to make recommendations for the site going forward. The project involved having daily meetings as a team and doing individual work based on each others strength as discussed.

As a group we were given a project that worked on a real engineering issue at the site, the work we completed on the project has been passed on to be reviewed by the engineering team to potentially be implemented in the future. We were given responsibility for finding all the data needed for calculations and also carrying out the calculations.

I have learnt how communicate professionally within a business and how to use different platforms to reach out to different people within the business. I have developed my teamwork skills through working on the project in a group and the importance of clear communication and having a plan when working in a team. I have also developed my presentation skills through opportunities to present what i have been working on.

I was very well supported throughout the internship, as a group we had a manager as well as a graduate acting as a day to day contact which allowed for all questions to be answered quickly and I also felt I was able to ask questions I wouldn't necessarily ask my manager. I also had weekly meetings with a graduate buddy which allowed for support outside the scope of the project.

The company was very welcoming and I never felt as though other members of staff looked down on the interns and they were always open to answering any questions I had.

I really enjoyed my internship with Centrica it has provided me with a real insight into opportunities available for my future. I have enjoyed having the opportunity to work in the offices and network with other people outside my team.
