Commercial Agent Intern Review

Day to day I am centred in the Birmingham office. I carry out viewings of properties we are marketing. I advise clients, help negotiate deals, agree on terms of leases, draft Heads of Terms, liaise from client to tenant, attend marketing meetings, update and edit marketing brochures, research comparable evidence for properties, carry out research for other agents, drop off keys for new tenants and assisting other agents with marketing tasks.

I was given a good amount of responsibility whether is was carrying out viewings or liaising with tenants and clients. I was trusted to make decisions and advice clients.
I enjoyed the responsibility I was given as it tested me and my skills, but I was counselled well and always had someone to ask if I wasn't sure, so I was never completely out of my comfort zone.

My skills have developed massively over my time at Fisher German. My existing knowledge of the property market from University was limited to theory only, however putting it into practise has strengthened my grasp of the industry and how it functions. This reinforced knowledge along side learning how to professionally deal with tenants and clients from other colleagues, made me a lot more confident in myself and my skills.

I was given great support in the Birmingham office. I shadowed and took on properties from all four members in the commercial agency team. They all gave me excellent guidance and I have learnt a lot from them all. I never felt uncomfortable with any of the tasks I was given due to the help and expertise of my colleagues. If I had any questions to anyone else in the office everyone was happy to help.

The company culture I experienced was a very inclusive and people orientated. From the start seeing how the company treats their clients and the relationships they build, it was apparent that having conversations and getting to know people individually was very important to the company.

I enjoyed my summer placement very much. As stated I have strengthened my skills, broadened my knowledge. I have visited some truly impressive properties that I would not have got the chance to otherwise. I have met some very nice and interesting people. I have seen new sides of the job and at times I have pushed myself and been tested, all which have increased my interest and excitement to join the industry.
