Toxicology Intern Review

The role consisted in creating new databases to speed up the work process of the team. Furthermore, I took part in some research in order to find out the optimum conditions we need to use in order to obtain the data required.
In order to achieve this I had to use tools such as Python, Excel and PowerBI.

During my placement i was given a project i had to work on. It was my responsibility to contact people (from other departments) for help and ensure results were delivered. I was also in charge of delivering presentations to my team and other departments in order to explain the scope of my project and why it was relevant for the business.

Developed my communication and presenting skills. This placement offered many opportunities to present my project to a variety of audiences including specialist and non-specialist audiences, as well as people with different levels in the company hierarchy.
I also developed my python coding skills and learned how to use PowerBI (a powerful data vizualisation software)

The support network for this placement consisted of a Placement Team, which helped us with our soft skills development, such as: presenting, doing posters and organising big meetings. Furthermore, each intern got assigned a line manager and a buddy, both of which were in your team. They provided me with support for my project and helped me find my feet on the first few months of placement

Overall, everyone in the company is very joyful and positive. Everyone was always more than happy to help out the interns or even just have a 1-on-1 chat to provide advice, guidance, or help you explore different departments in the company you might be interested in.

I thoroughly enjoyed my year at BAT. It was great for my interpersonal skills development and helped me deepen my scientific knowledge.
