Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was part of a team of 3 who maintained 230 employees across 3 different sites, where ~ 100 were production operators.
In my role, I contributed to managing recruitment, employee matters and queries, fleet management, overseeing employee attendance and holiday tracking, coordinating and hosting a range of employee/management meetings, screening and hiring of temporary staff, managing pay-related issues and changes, and submitting payroll for three different locations monthly.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
For an intern, I had so much responsibility and this is what enabled me to strongly develop my skills. I equally shared my workload 3-ways with a HR Business Partner and an HR Graduate which allowed me to experience the most out of my role and gain great exposure with working from all departments.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I fortunately gained endless support from my teammates and really useful supervision from my manager. My manager was based at another site 200+ miles away from mine, however we both shared responsibility over one site of 40 employees, where we would meet on average monthly. If this wasn't the case, I still had monthly 1-2-1 catch ups with them, which was so helpful and supportive.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The site i was based at was very much 'down in the dumps' as i started, however by the end of my placement the company culture and atmosphere has increased due to more wellbeing and get together events being arranged and the chance for office and operations to gel and mix together

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really, really enjoyed my placement. Firstly, as mentioned, it wasn't a placement, but an actual job for 14 months. At no point was I made to feel like an intern, and in fact I gained so much respect from the team that it felt like I was a permanent employee from the start of my placement and it is gutting that is had to end!

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Eaton
Make sure you reach out to as many people as possible. You don't realise how easy it is to branch out and interact with people from not only all over the country, but all over the world and this is such a great opportunity. You can work in any department, in any sector due to the diverseness of the company, and there is such a positive and inclusive culture that you are made to feel so important from the get go regardless of where you are in the ladder.
