Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
An early morning meeting to discuss the issues of the day, working on site as part of investigations, speaking with operators and collaborating numerous departments to initiate improvements on site. Looking at costs of quality issues within production, as well as supporting the operations team to achieve internal goals.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. I take on new projects of my own and am held responsible for the work I complete. There is always support available to me as I am very early on in my career and everyone on site is generally very friendly and supportive.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I am developing new skills, predominantly engineering based rather than soft skills, eg learning jargon, preparing documents for engineering operations and projects. My soft skills are developing further as having enthusiasm is key to getting the most of this role as there is something new everyday to explore.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Everyone is very friendly, supportive and willing to help, whether they are in the same department or are from other areas of the business. Within my department I have experienced guidance from numerous people in similar roles as myself as well as people in more senior leadership positions.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I feel like the culture here is very good - it makes working a lot easier but also coming into work becomes much easier with a healthy working environment.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have loved my placement so far. This is a testament to the people, the culture, but also the work. Being out on plant and in the world of work as an engineer is an experience I am enjoying very much.

Just be yourself. You can only be hired if you show who you are in the interview process - winging it will be picked up on. Cargill has a very inclusive but unique culture that holds a place for everyone, you just have to find where it is you fit in.
