Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
There were workshops, presentations, panel events and talks on various aspects of the firm: Diversity, equity and inclusion; ESG; mental health; what does a lawyer do and many more. There were also networking events and socials in the evening.
We had the opportunity to sit in various practice area with a supervisor to see what it looks like to be working in the department.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
In terms of legal tech, we had various talks by A&O Advanced Delivery and Solution (AD&S) and the legal tech team, Fuse. It was great seeing all the available legal tech that we could use.
In terms of roles, I particularly enjoyed the talk on ESG to learn about the work that A&O does as well as opportunities to get involved in the ESG sphere

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
In terms of new legal knowledge, I learnt so much about commercial law, the current legal market and technical knowledge in the practice area I sat in, which was banking regulatory.
I also gained legal research skills, attention to details and managing multiple projects at the same time.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was genuinely supportive and committed to your personal growth as well as career development.
Everyone I have met was so welcoming and happy to have a quick chat about their experience. My supervisor was really patient and he made sure that I understand what he was talking about.
I can also see how driven and smart everyone I have met is. I really enjoyed the environment and it pushes myself to be better.
