Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role is mainly desk-based and involves a lot of project management, coming up with study plans and revising reports.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. I was able to lead my own research project with the support of my LM and team members.

Was able to develop my communication skills (verbal, written and visual). Got used to working within a diverse team and improved my critical thinking skills.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I always had lots of support when I needed it. My LM and team have supported me through the entire year in matters related to my project and career progression. Apart from that, the placement team in BAT arranges monthly sessions, inductions and events that helped me develop my soft skills, network and learn more about the company.
I also have a mentor and a 'buddy' as more informal points of contact.

The working environment at BAT Southampton is great. Everyone is very welcoming and keen on helping and collaborating.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have really enjoyed my placement at BAT. From the moment I started, my LM and colleagues made me feel very welcome and helped me integrate into the company. I had the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, explore different career paths and learn more about what it is like to work in industry.
