Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Amazon Discover is a two-day virtual event and mentoring program targeting students graduating in 2024 with computer science or related degrees. Each day, participants engage in a busy agenda from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. GMT, including coding exercises, technical workshops, interview and CV writing skill development, panel discussions on Amazon careers, virtual social events, and insights into the daily activities of Software Development Engineers. Following the event, students continue with a mentoring program to apply their skills for Amazon internship opportunities.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
During panel discussions and presentations, I learned about the different career paths and opportunities within Amazon's technology sector. This included understanding the specific roles and responsibilities of software development engineers and how they contribute to the company's goals. By engaging with mentors and industry professionals during the event, I received firsthand information and guidance regarding potential roles at Amazon. I learned about the qualifications, skills, and experiences desired for different positions, as well as the company culture and values.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I had the opportunity to learn and develop various skills such as: software development through coding exercises and technical workshops, interview preparation as the event provided insights into interview techniques and strategies, helping participants enhance their interview skills and boost their confidence. Also gained an insight into software development engineering, as the event offered a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about the day-to-day activities of software development engineers, providing a deeper understanding of the role and its requirements.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The event was offered a range of activities, including coding exercises, technical workshops, panel discussions, and virtual social events and the variety of content ensures participants can engage with topics they are interested in, making the experience more enjoyable for me. Furthermore the chance to connect with mentors, industry professionals, and like-minded peers was exciting and enjoyable as building relationships and expanding professional networks can create a sense of community and provide valuable support and guidance. Finally, understanding potential roles and career paths available at Amazon was motivating and enjoyable for individuals interested in pursuing a career in technology. Exploring different opportunities and envisioning future possibilities generated excitement and enthusiasm.
