Job Description

We are offering a 12 month placement for a highly motivated undergraduate to join the Production Planning team at our Aberdare site, starting in summer 2026. You must be currently undertaking a Bachelor’s degree and looking to develop your learning through hands on industry experience.

Typical tasks include:

  • Monitoring raw material inventory levels (physical and system) for copper, compound and packaging, ensuring stock remains within agreed min/max and safety stock settings.
  • Creating, reviewing and maintaining purchase orders and scheduling agreements in SAP, ensuring accurate pricing, lead times and delivery dates.
  • Coordinating supplier deliveries, expediting overdue orders and helping manage shortages by proposing alternatives and recovery actions with Production/Planning.
  • Working with Stores/Warehouse to prioritise receiving, put away and staging of materials for production.
  • Investigating and resolving goods receipt/invoice receipt discrepancies and blocked invoices in partnership with Finance, Quality and suppliers.
  • Maintaining accurate material master data (lead times, MOQ/lot sizes, safety stock, MRP type) and supporting continuous improvement of planning parameters.
  • Supporting inventory accuracy through cycle counts, variance investigations and authorised stock adjustments while following inventory control processes.
  • Assisting quality containment activities (quarantines, rejections, concessions) and arranging replacement material to minimise production disruption.
  • Tracking and reporting key metrics (stock turns, shortages, aged inventory, supplier delivery performance) and highlighting risks or required actions.

About You

  • You are organised, detail focused and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accurate raw material data.
  • You are confident working with numbers and can support reporting and KPI tracking.
  • Strong communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively with Production Planning, Stores/Warehouse, Quality, Purchasing and suppliers to keep material flowing to plan.
  • You take a proactive approach to problem solving—expediting deliveries, highlighting risks and supporting recovery actions when issues arise.
  • You have good spoken and written English and the right to work in the UK.
  • You are comfortable working at the shopfloor/warehouse interface and supporting inventory accuracy activities.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel (pivot tables/lookups) and MS Office, are essential; SAP/ERP experience is an advantage.

What you’ll gain

  • By the end of the placement, you will have gained practical experience in raw material control within a live manufacturing environment.
  • You’ll develop your planning and problem solving skills, learn how copper, compound and packaging flow from supplier to production, and build confidence using ERP systems (e.g., SAP), Excel and performance reporting.
  • You will also strengthen your stakeholder management skills through daily collaboration with Production, Warehouse, Quality, Purchasing and suppliers, and contribute to improvement activities that enhance service, reduce shortages and improve inventory accuracy.
