Heating and Plumbing Engineer Level 3 Apprenticeship 2026 – Sheffield

Are you looking to kick start your career as an Industrial Plumbing and Heating Engineer?

Do you want to install, inspect, and test the mechanical pipework in high specification building projects?

Do you want to work on exciting projects that challenge you daily and get paid while you do it?

As an NG Bailey apprentice you will:

  • Train at one of the top performing colleges or training providers in the country.
  • Learn about our award-winning approach to working safely.
  • Work indoors, outdoors, in confined spaces and at height.
  • Be prepared for early starts and travel away from home.
  • Develop great working relationships with some of the industry’s most talented people.
  • Have a strong support network giving you the chance to build your confidence and use your initiative.

You will learn to:

  • Install mechanical services (e.g. heating and chilled systems, fan coil units, radiators, boilers, chilled beams, radiant panels).
  • Read and understand engineering drawings for valve set ups and the ways to route pipework.
  • Inspect and test pneumatic systems (air) and hydraulic systems (water).
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on pipework.
  • Use small hand tools such as pipe slices, pipe cutters etc.
  • Operate electrical tools such as crimpers, pistol drills and SDS Drills etc.
  • Install the systems needed for heating and chilled systems (brackets, pipework etc.)

You will attend Leeds College of Building on block release to complete the Level 3 Building Services Engineering Craftsperson Apprenticeship. In addition, you will regularly attend in house training and development as part of the programme.

To apply you need:

3 GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade C/4 or above in English Language, Maths and Science.

Grade C/4 or above in Scottish National 5 or Scottish Intermediate (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.

Please note, to be eligible for an apprenticeship you:

  • Must be able to complete the apprenticeship within the required time, including the End-Point Assessment.
  • Must have a valid and eligible residency status and the right to work in England.
  • Must be ordinarily resident in the UK or its territories for at least 3 years before starting the apprenticeship.
