LU APD Construction Site Supervisor Apprenticeship - London

Duration: Approximately 3 years
Location:
The role will be based in London, with a significant amount of time spent on-site during night shifts. There will also be opportunities to work during the day to understand the planning and preparation involved in renewals.
Entry requirements
- You should already hold or be working towards a minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade 4 (C) and above in Maths, English language and a Science (or equivalent) plus 2 A-Levels in any subject at grade A* - D (or equivalent).
- You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.
- Please note that you will be required to provide original certificates and/or predicted grades as proof for your eligibility checks.
- You must be 18 years of age by 7th September 2026 to apply for this apprenticeship.
- Please be advised that should you be successful in getting an offer for this scheme, your offer will be subject to a satisfactory medical which may include but is not limited to: drugs and alcohol screening, eye test and hearing test.

What Qualifications will I gain?
A Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the industry’s recognised professional bodies meeting the educational requirements for Technician status or the equivalent level of membership.
Job overview
This is your chance to play a vital role in maintaining and improving one of the world’s most iconic transport systems, the London Underground. As a Construction Site Supervisor Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience at the heart of major engineering projects, overseeing ballasted track renewals and deep tube renewals that keep millions of passengers moving every day.
You won’t just be observing, you’ll be actively involved in supervising specialist contractors and coordinating complex works in challenging environments. From ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality to managing resources and solving real-world problems, you’ll develop the skills that make a true leader in construction.
This role offers a unique blend of technical expertise, operational responsibility, and strategic thinking, giving you exposure to both night-time site operations, weekend closures and daytime planning activities. What will I be doing?
This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience overseeing ballasted track renewals and deep tube renewals across the London Underground infrastructure. You will learn to supervise specialist contractors and workers on construction projects, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Supervising specialist contractors on site.

Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be a Chartered Building Surveyor with world renowned status. You will have the opportunity to develop your career further and be responsible for you’re the design and implementation of your own projects, which could range from minor refurbishments to major infrastructure projects. It is TfL’s intention to bring the right candidate up to the level of Member of the Chartered Institute of Building. This is a very good grounding for a fascinating career in track renewals and you will be encouraged to progress to full membership.

Our application system requires all applicants to upload a CV. Although CVs are not reviewed during the shortlisting process, we do use them to confirm that applicants meet the required grade eligibility criteria. You are welcome to upload a basic CV however, please ensure that the section detailing your qualifications is accurate and up to date. Please note we do not read cover letters.
The application process consists of 5 steps, including online assessments which will need to be completed within an allocated time frame. We highly recommend that you read through this document thoroughly so that you can familiarise yourself with the process. You will receive information and guidance around each assessment stage as you progress through your application.
Please pay close attention to emails and deadlines provided noting you have 1 week to complete online assessments and we cannot re-issue these tests once the deadline passes. Assessment centres for apprentice roles will take place from March - May 2026, please note that many roles only have 1 assessment day and we are unable to guarantee alternative dates. We are conducting assessment centres in-person and virtually (role dependent).
