Digital Services

During your placement you will apply the principles of Machine Learning (ML), Data Engineering, Data Analysis and Software Development to develop and integrate our new Digital Capabilities into the rest of the business to help drive high level business decisions. The focus is on delivering useful insights, developing transformative capabilities and then effectively communicating with the rest of the business.

Students from a variety of backgrounds including Engineering, Computing, Physics, Computer Science and Maths are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Derive useful insights from our data and communicate effectively to the rest of the business.
  • Develop Software, Pipelines, Web Apps etc. alongside our Digital Engineers to support our Digital Activities.
  • Collect, process and analyse data from various Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
  • Construct a real-time train tracking dashboard for displaying and showcasing our work within the business.

Competencies

  • Familiarity with basic data structures such asStructured and Semi-Structured Data, knowledge of more advanced data structures like DataFrames or JSON desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language (Python/JavaScript/C/C++).
  • Passion, enthusiasm and a can-do attitude.
  • Self-motivated, driven and organised.
  • Good problem solver.
  • Strong communicator.
