Job Description
Westcotts - Work Experience - South West
Work experience is a great way to develop your skills and get a real insight into the world of work. At Westcotts, our placements give you the chance to see what we do day-to-day and find out whether a career in accountancy could be right for you.
We offer unpaid placements from Year 10 upwards, tailored to suit different stages of life and career. Whether you’re still at school, exploring your first career options, or considering a change after years in another industry, our programmes provide valuable hands-on experience.
Placements run from one to three weeks and are usually offered to those living near our offices who don’t have an existing or previous relationship with Westcotts.
Many of our current team members began their journey with us through work experience and went on to join us in permanent roles.
Hear from Ayomide Okesola:
“I wanted to express my gratitude for the opportunity to complete my work experience at Westcotts this week. It has been an incredibly insightful and rewarding experience.
Some of my highlights include:
- Working with the VAT team, which was engaging and filled with activities that kept me informed and busy.
- Gaining a realistic understanding of the day-to-day workings of the accounts department.
- Learning valuable information about savings and investments from my time with the financial planning department, which has sparked a personal interest for me.
- Deepening my knowledge of how tax operations are carried out through my time with the Tax department, where I gained clarity and answers to my questions in this area.
Additionally, I wanted to mention how friendly and welcoming all the staff were. Their support contributed significantly to my ability to relax and immerse myself in the work environment.”
Application Process
The application process is very similar to what our job applicants go through as this allows you to get vital recruitment experience.
If you are interested in a work experience placement, please follow the below link where you can upload your CV and a covering letter which needs to include the following information:
- Which office(s) and department(s) you would like to be considered for;
- When (dates) and for how long (from one to three weeks) you would like the experience;
- What you wish to get from the experience and your long-term career aspirations;
- Why you feel you would be suitable for a work experience opportunity with us.
Due to the volume of work experience requests, we regrettably are not able to accommodate or reply to every application. We will however normally contact you usually within 4 weeks of the date of your work experience application if we are to progress you further to an interview and test stage.
“The support given by Westcotts in undertaking an apprenticeship is second to none. Having studied AAT 2 and 3 distance learning in a previous job, I cannot over state how appreciative I am to be completing my level 4 at Westcotts, where I can learn alongside getting practical experience. I would recommend it to anyone.” - Lauren Ainsworth, Trainee Accounting Technician
