Job Description

Compliance Industrial Placement 2026

Who we are

Glencore is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies, and a major producer and marketer of more than 60 commodities that advance everyday life.

Through a network of assets, customers and suppliers that spans the globe, we produce, process, recycle, source, market and distribute the commodities that support decarbonisation while meeting the energy needs of today.

With over 150,000 employees and contractors and a strong footprint in over 35 countries in both established and emerging regions for natural resources, our marketing and industrial activities are supported by a global network of more than 50 offices.

The Glencore 2026 Industrial Placement Programme

Designed to accelerate your career in the commodities trading, technology, engineering, or environmental science spheres, this 12-month programme gives talented undergraduates exposure to the world-class people and careers on offer at Glencore.

This is a fast-paced placement in our London office. You will be given your own areas of responsibility and have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the business from day one.

By the end of the programme, you will have developed strong skills in your chosen function. You will also be equipped with the highest level of professionalism, personal ownership and commercial aptitude – skills that are essential to future careers at Glencore.

Industrial placement students may be able to return as full-time team members on our Graduate Programme upon completing their studies, depending on performance and business requirements.

The Compliance Placement

The Compliance team is looking to recruit a placement student to help support with on-boarding and third-party risk management.

Your role will be mainly focused on completing KYC (Know Your Customer) processes for Glencore’s energy division, but you will also have the opportunity to assist with other aspects of Glencore’s Compliance programme – including vessel screening, risk assessment and training.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining complete and accurate KYC due diligence records on new and existing counterparties and non-trade vendors, ensuring that relevant databases are updated to reflect completion of review.
  • Escalating all concerns and issues as appropriate.
  • Shaping improvements to current processes.
  • Maintaining and enhancing effective interaction and communication with other units/business areas and counterparties.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc duties as required.

Who we look for

To apply to this Glencore placement opportunity, you should show:

  • A strong level of academic achievement in your undergraduate degree to date.
  • A demonstrated interest in developing a career within compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills, with an eye for attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

We’re looking for driven, talented undergraduate students who are interested in an exciting, challenging career in the commodities sector.

Working at Glencore requires commercial awareness, adaptability and resilience – and you’ll need to thrive in team environments as well as take initiative independently.

We look for disciplined people who can demonstrate entrepreneurial ability, thrive on logistical challenges and can provide practical solutions to complex problems using their numerical capabilities.

You must be studying a degree with a year in industry, and successful candidates need to be available to start their placements in July 2026.

Application requirements

You are required to submit a CV and covering letter. Through the use of evidence and examples, your application must demonstrate:

  • Where you have generated additional value by utilising your entrepreneurial flair, commercial innovation or initiative
  • Your resilience and determination to succeed in a commercial/competitive environment
  • Your proficiency in solving and communicating complex problems
  • Your ability to build relationships, work in and influence a team

Applications close: 05/12/25

The successful candidate must have the right to work in the UK by the start of the placement.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so an earlier application may lead to an earlier decision.
