Job Description

Architecture Graduate 2026 - Central Government - London

At Mace Consult, we combine leading-edge practical expertise with programme and project delivery consultancy skills to unlock the potential in every project, every place, and every person. From iconic skyscrapers to sustainable communities, we turn ambitious ideas into reality.

On our two-year Graduate Programme, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects from the very start. Whether it’s shaping sustainable places, creating smarter infrastructure, or helping clients solve complex challenges, you’ll play a real part in projects that make a lasting difference – to people, to places, and to the planet.

The opportunity

At Mace Consult, you’ll help shape the projects and programmes that change skylines and communities. Working closely with clients and partners, you’ll bring ideas to life through smart thinking, collaboration and innovation. No two days are the same – it’s a dynamic environment where adaptability, curiosity and integrity drive everything we do.

The Central Government sector demands joined-up thinking to deliver efficient, sustainable and future-ready estates, infrastructure and services. From rationalising estates and restoring cultural assets to building schools, hospitals and prisons, government departments face ambitious timescales, tight budgets and complex political priorities. We combine consultancy expertise with construction delivery to help governments in the UK and worldwide turn policy into reality – creating places that improve communities, support resilience and meet sustainability goals. Join us in Central Government and you’ll help deliver projects that improve public services, strengthen communities and shape a better future for everyone.

Note: While you’ll start in a specific team, client-facing roles naturally evolve over time, offering the chance to work with different clients, teams and sectors across Mace Consult as projects and priorities change.

What you’ll do

In Architecture, you will play a key role in designing delegated elements of Architectural projects to concept stage, meeting business, statutory legal and contractual requirements. Security clearances may be required for some projects. You will gain an understanding of the overall development process of design and construction, exploring the differing disciplines for delivery. Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the architectural team to develop and understand the protocols, processes, and technical aspects of the overall role
  • Ensuring training is kept up to date, gaining a clear understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Engaging with business improvement directives where applicable Developing working relationships with a range of internal stakeholders
  • Providing informal guidance to more junior roles
  • Working with team members providing operational delivery of team/regional strategy etc
  • Working collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work

You will also work towards gaining professional membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) or the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), fully funded and supported by us.

What we can offer you

Our two-year Graduate Development Programme gives you structured on-the-job training and the chance to take on meaningful work from day one. You’ll learn alongside experienced professionals, be supported by skilled mentors and peers, and gain exposure to different areas of our business as you grow your career.

Alongside your development, you’ll receive a wide range of benefits, including:

  • A permanent role from the moment you join
  • Fully funded professional membership of an association relevant to your role
  • 22 days annual leave + bank holidays + 2 further ‘Mace Days’ off + 3 extra days over Christmas, with the option to purchase additional leave
  • Volunteering day each year
  • Pension scheme (with up to 7% matched funding from Mace Consult)

  • 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications)

Given the nature of our work, flexibility is key. Our projects and clients are based in various locations, so you should be prepared to travel frequently to different project sites or Mace Consult offices. A positive and adaptable approach to travel is therefore essential, as it may be a regular part of your role. To support this, Mace Consult offers travel expense reimbursements for business travel, including mileage, public transport fares, and, where necessary, accommodation.

Due to this project’s remote location, having a driving licence and your own vehicle would be beneficial for this role.
