We are looking for an enthusiastic Thermal Modelling Engineer to join our team specializing in Li-ion battery packs for our simulation-based product development (SBPD), Buckinghamshire. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2026.

External Qualifications and Competencies

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Develop a strong understanding of Li-ion cell behavior and characterize their dynamic responses under various conditions.
  • Explore the factors influencing Li-ion cell performance and the critical role of thermal management in ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Gain hands-on experience with commercial simulation tools, including 3D CFD platforms (Ansys Fluent, FloEFD) and 1D system-level tools (GT-Suite, MATLAB/Simulink), for modeling battery pack behavior.
  • Learn the Virtual Product Integration (VPI) process and understand how simulation informs design decisions across different development phases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional technical experts and senior engineers to provide input and negotiate design solutions.
  • Document technical findings, best practices, and present results in technical forums. Work collaboratively within a team to explore the challenges and opportunities of Li-ion technology in the electrification of commercial vehicles.

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Interest in Thermal management, modelling, and Li-ion Batteries.
  • Studying for a degree in Mechanical, thermal, or electrical engineering.
  • Good team player and knowledge transfer skills.
  • Strong work ethics. Sense of ownership and responsibility, good organizational and time management skills.
