Highways Maintenance Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship - Goole
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative Apprentice to join our Area 12 account based in Goole.
Starting Salary: £28,729.00 per annum (Subject to review)
Location: Motorway Maintenance Compound, Finnley’s Lane, West Cowick, Goole, DN14 9ED.
Working hours per week: Monday - Friday, Days and Nights. 07:00 - 15:00 Days, 19:00 - 5:00 Nights. 45hr/week.
Start date: April 2026

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Lead Traffic Management Operative level 2 apprenticeship which will take approximately 21 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered training provider to achieve this qualification, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your office.

Amey has been working in partnership with Area 12 Highways England since June 2021. Area 12 is made up of 476km dual carriageway, 179km single carriageway and 1,963 structures.
We provide routine, cyclic and winter maintenance and response across Yorkshire and Humberside, also overseeing traffic management during incidents and the operation of the ten maintenance depots in the region.
Ensuring our roads are well-maintained and well-managed, through all-weather seasons we aim to help reduce traffic incidents and severity of road accidents as well as ensure road user of Yorkshire and Humberside feel safer.
What you will do:
As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will be hands-on with real-world maintenance and response activities, gaining valuable experience that directly supports your apprenticeship. You will be a key part of a proactive team, tackling a variety of essential tasks that keep our roads safe and running smoothly, including:
- Carry out highway maintenance tasks, such as minor civils, drainage, litter picking, and carriageway patching.
- Interpret regulations and manage temporary traffic systems, including selection, installation, maintenance, and recovery.
- Maintain, document, handle, and store TTM equipment safely and effectively.
- Operate vehicles and plant, including routine checks, maintenance, and cleaning.
- Support emergency and winter operations as required.
- Ensure health and safety compliance for self, team, and the public.
- Record driver hours and resource usage accurately.
- Maintain communication and documentation with colleagues, contractors, and external parties.
What you will bring:
- If you do not hold GCSE/functional skills qualifications, you must achieve a minimum of entry level 3 in Maths and English during initial assessment
- Full UK driver’s license
- Have the enthusiasm to be part of a high performing team and a drive for success
- DBS requirement
