Location: Filton, Bristol

Duration: 12.5 months

Join the Airbus Wing Research & Technology (R&T) Engineering team at our Filton, UK site, where innovation takes flight. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a self-empowered and highly engaged team committed to pioneering novel solutions for the future of aviation.

Our core mission is to develop cutting-edge wing technologies that directly support Airbus’ strategy for sustainability and low-emission travel. You'll collaborate with other Airbus research teams across Europe and work alongside selected industry partners worldwide, contributing to groundbreaking advancements that will shape the future of flight.

What you will be doing:

  • Work on the Wing of Tomorrow Full Scale Static Test, including correlating test results with predictions and drawing conclusions for the next phase of testing, and beyond;
  • Work with the results of novel instrumentation techniques to gain understanding of the behavior of the wing and feeding that learning into future projects.
  • Support the development of novel composite wing box designs, working closely with other engineering functions and manufacturing colleagues.

Through these activities you will develop a good understanding of how we design, analyze and test Airbus wings. You will use cutting edge simulation tools and play a role in disseminating the learning to future R&T activities and projects.

Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Your application should include a CV along with a Cover Letter outlining your motivation and suitability for the role.

  • Studying towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent;
  • An interest in the development of composite and metallic aircraft structures, particularly the structural analysis of those structures;
  • An interest in finding creative and practical solutions to complex problems;
  • A proactive team player who is able to listen, understand and communicate in an open and trusting environment;
  • A strong interest in developing themselves and others.

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You might also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control.
