About the role

If defending IT infrastructure and networks or combating cyber-crimes appeals, then starting a career in cyber security is for you. Joining our 18-month Graduate Development Programme gives you the opportunity to work in a varied environment where no two days are the same, at the heart of a team protecting our assets.

As a Graduate Cyber Security in the National Energy System Operator (NESO) you will develop your skills so that you can join a department who make sure all our people, premises and systems stay safe and secure. As part of the team, you will be helping manage the risk of cyber threats which continually evolve and increase in sophistication and persistence, to protect our vital infrastructure.

The services underpinning digital security are wide-ranging, these could include:

  • Cyber Security Services, Product and Engineering – plan, design, implement and support effective cyber security solutions.
  • Operations – protect, detect, and respond to cyber incidents, provide specialist digital forensic support.
  • Security Business Partnering – make projects secure and the business successful.
  • Technology Risk – manage technology risks and assure controls across NESO.
  • Strategic Risk & Governance – prevent and reduce the time to discover attacks via effective use of intelligence, define the risk view and develop the talent for success.
  • Performance – define strategy and report security performance.

Key tasks and areas of work

As a member of the Security team, you will help protect our people, our premises, and digital systems to maintain trust in NESO’s services. You will be expected to deliver successful outcomes from a selection of the above work areas, and you will have the chance to experience how we manage cyber risk. For instance, you could:

  • Analyse and assess potential security risks
  • Develop plans to deal with security incidents by putting measures in place
  • Prepare technical reports to support our strategy
  • Carry out tests on a system to expose weaknesses in security
  • Develop and maintain security products and services to protect our environments
  • Keep detailed records of investigations
  • Report on your findings to inform decisions about whether upgrades or remediation are required.

This role is based at Warwick, hybrid working options available and dependent upon business requirements.

About You

As one of our Graduates, you’ll have the chance to start putting your studies into practice! If you have a keen interest in new technology and cyber security services, this role will appeal to you.

You’ll need to be curious, interested, and proactive, and have a minimum 2.2 Degree classification in a Cyber Security related degree (preferred) or computing related degree (acceptable).

You will also have a valid full UK Driving Licence at time of application (essential for the Cyber Security Engineering roles).
