About Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary
Hampshire is one of the most interesting places in the UK to police; home to more than two million people spread across sprawling countryside or within growing cities of Portsmouth, Southampton and northerly urban hubs. During the summer months the population swells even more with tourism, making our counties one of the largest policing areas in England and Wales.
We have not only retained a strong neighbourhood policing approach with officers and staff more closely aligned to the communities they serve, we also have strong national influence along with the largest non-metropolitan joint specialist unit in the UK. This has enabled us to manage events such as royal weddings and D-Day celebrations, ensuring the safety of local communities and world leaders.
We need people with the widest possible range of skills and experiences; the unique challenges we face mean there are opportunities beyond those available in many other forces. Our size, collaborated units and links to the region provide access to new and challenging career possibilities.
A job in policing is extremely rewarding, we value and invest in staff health and wellbeing because we know that only people who are well looked after can give the public the best possible protection.
Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Constabulary work closely with universities across the region, supporting students studying criminology, public services, law and the professional policing degree, as well as may other topics.
Our collaboration includes:
Personalised Careers Advice - We offer one-to-one guidance to help students explore policing career paths and understand what the roles entail.
Mock Interviews - To prepare students for real recruitment processes, we stage mock interviews during university career events, providing valuable feedback and experience.
Recruitment Events & Fairs - Our officers attend university recruitment fairs and host events at our Netley Training Centre. These sessions give students hands-on experiences of police work alongside talks from officers across various specialisms.
Educational Talks & Resources - Our staff visit universities to deliver tailored presentations and provide written guides on the recruitment process, investigative roles, and interviewing techniques, linking directly to course content where relevant.
