What was the interview process like?
We had to submit our CV, then complete a video interview followed by a half day assessment centre. It was all relatively informal, the people were really friendly and the emphasis was on being yourself, and showing your personality. The assessment centre was definitely the most challenging part!
How much responsibility were you given?
A lot! I became the lead on a National project after 3 months, was given a major weekly report to own after 2 months and I was also responsible for calculating targets for some KPI’s which people were bonused on.
What advice would you give to someone applying for your role?
I know it sounds obvious, but apply for the job that you want and that meets your skill set! And the biggest and best question you can ask is ‘why’ at Virgin Media, so ask it often and remember that there is no such thing as a silly question.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Probably learning to say no and push back on requests that I didn’t have the time or required skills to do. I am constantly working to deadlines and want to provide the best work for all my stakeholders, and sometimes that means that I have to say no.
What did you most enjoy about your role?
One of the things that surprised me when I started at Virgin Media was the amount of autonomy I had. There was a lot to learn, however once I started to realise what, as a team, we were trying to achieve this became really fulfilling - I was able to put forward ideas and actually get them approved for investigation.
