Recruitment Intern
At Softcat
Placement (10 Months+)
My role as a Recruitment Intern at Softcat
As a Recruitment Intern at Softcat, I’ve been involved in so many different things, from managing candidate communications and right to work checks, to helping run assessment centres and supporting onboarding for new interns. I’ve also taken part in lots of fun projects like creating an intern tips video and the Buddy Scheme, and even got to help plan merchandise for future events.
One of the best parts has been working with the team. Everyone has been so supportive, welcoming, and genuinely lovely. I’ve felt like a proper part of the team from day one, and I’ve learnt so much from the people around me.
Highlights
Without a doubt, the biggest highlight has been meeting and working with my team. They’ve honestly made my placement what it is, I’ve met people I’ll stay in touch with for life, and I wouldn’t have had the same experience without them.
I’ve also loved the recognition culture at Softcat. The recognition platform is such a great touch, and it’s amazing how people genuinely take time to shout each other out and celebrate wins. It makes the workplace feel so positive and uplifting, and it’s something I’ll really miss!
What I've learnt
I’ve grown so much in confidence and independence over my placement year. At the beginning, I was nervous about doing things on my own, but ended with managing tasks, leading projects, and even helping mentor new interns. I’ve learnt lots of new skills, from time management and communication to project planning and public speaking, and I’ve had the chance to learn from some amazing people in the company.
My advice for future interns
Honestly just throw yourself into it and make the most out of everything. Say yes to every opportunity, even if it feels a bit out of your comfort zone at first. You’ll learn so much by getting stuck in and trying new things. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, get involved in projects, and speak up with ideas. The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it.
And most importantly, enjoy it! It goes so fast, and it’s such a special experience.
