Business Management Apprentice

What attracted you to do an apprenticeship?

Whilst at Sixth Form, I didn’t know what I wanted to do in terms of my next steps. I toured universities but I wasn’t 100% sure it was the right path for me. My school shared detail on McDonald’s School Leaver Degree Apprenticeship programme. I had been unsure as to whether university was the right path for me, and this opportunity meant I could earn whilst learning without having a large student debt or having to sacrifice saving money for my future.

How has your apprenticeship benefited you both personally and professionally?

I’m now a completely different person to when I started my apprenticeship journey – my confidence, knowledge and critical thinking have grown so much!

The apprenticeships helped me to enhance my knowledge of restaurant operations, understanding the business and where we can perform better.

Professionally, I believe my apprenticeship achievements have helped to make me stand out and achieve my current role sooner than expected.

What would you say to others interested in an apprenticeship?

100% recommend doing it! For anyone looking at post school options – don’t put it off - just do it! You can gain so much in terms of learning and growth and gain a qualification whilst earning a wage and putting your knowledge into practice.

What are you doing now and where do you hope to get to?

I’m currently in a seconded position of L&D Facilitator, which I am loving! The skills developed during my apprenticeships have supported my career growth as well as my confidence and has encouraged me keep climbing the ladder!

When I told a teacher about my successful application onto McDonald’s School Leaver Degree Apprenticeship programme, they suggested I could be the CEO one day… this has always stuck with me as a motivator, and I hope to one day realise that dream!
