What inspired you to choose an Apprenticeship instead of a traditional role or further education?
What inspired you to choose an Apprenticeship instead of a traditional role or further education?
For me the apprenticeship route was an obvious choice as it is practical hands on experience which gives me immediate entry into the workforce. I can learn from my peers and have direct mentorship from professionals who have invaluable industry experience and real world skills.
What makes an Apprenticeship at EMR stand out from others?
EMR for me is a stand-out company because of its people and the environment they create; it allows myself and others to do our best work feeling supported, knowing my team has my back. A shared welcoming and “can do” attitude inspires me to challenge myself and take on different finance-related projects when given the opportunity.
What’s been the most exciting or rewarding part of your Apprenticeship so far?
Since starting at EMR, I have been able to collaborate with other departments within finance, enabling me to not only build relationships around the business but also gain experience in treasury, programming finance systems, and accounts payable so far. Working in these departments has given me the tools to better understand my career options but also set me apart from the crowd.
How do you manage to balance the demands of work and studying while staying motivated?
Balancing full-time work and study can seem daunting, but I’ve found that setting realistic goals, prioritising tasks, and using tools like calendars and to-do lists really helps. Creating a study schedule and sharing it with my team ensures they can support me while I make the most of my downtime. My mentor also advised me to learn to say no — it’s tough, but managing your time and workload is essential.
