Jun's journey as a trainee in Audit at BDO is a testament to the enriching experiences and supportive environment that the firm offers to its graduates.
With a focus on professional growth and a healthy work-life balance, Jun's story highlights the diverse opportunities and engaging projects that BDO provides, making it an ideal place for aspiring accountants to start their careers.
Job security can be a tricky thing, especially with the changing job market. I find that BDO is really invested in your development as a graduate, and there are plenty of opportunities to undertake in order to further develop yourself. There is also plenty of support available from your people manager and the wider team to help you grow.
I once worked on a food manufacturing company that produced the meal options we usually see in supermarkets. It was quite interesting to see how they were manufactured and get an insight into the process of producing the food we see each day.
I wanted a career in business that allowed me to understand a business from start to finish, and accounting seemed like the best way to have access to various parts of a business.
BDO stood out as a firm that prioritised culture and the wellbeing of their people, and I have personally experienced this. The programme itself is very structured, and there are clear expectations during each training year. As a whole, BDO also has various benefits options under the Re-flex employee portal.
There are always opportunities available at BDO, with check-ins with my people manager helping me navigate the direction of my professional career. I have also attended residential training courses each year that are designed to introduce us to our new role each year with training on the latest accounting standards and what effects this could have on our day-to-day role.
I find that the businesses we help and the people I work with are most rewarding. As a firm, we engage with all levels of a business, and this enables me to see the whole picture of a business.
I’d say to keep your options open and stay curious about how a business works some curiosity goes a long way to understanding a business and building relationships.
I find that the expectations for graduates are well-managed, with any expectations for working overtime being communicated in advance. There are also different socials that each office organises to meet outside of a work environment, which helps me to relax and unwind.
Jun's experience at BDO reflects the firm's commitment to broadening horizons and fostering a passion for accounting. Through structured programmes, diverse projects, and a supportive culture, Jun has been able to develop his skills and pursue his career ambitions. His story serves as an inspiration for graduates considering a career at BDO, showcasing the opportunities for growth and the importance of curiosity in understanding and engaging with businesses.
