Deputy Store Management Apprentice

Alex started a Store Management Apprenticeship with Aldi in 2024, shortly after graduating from university.

Thanks to the structured training and hands-on experience provided through the Apprenticeship Programme, Alex progressed quickly into the role of Deputy Store Manager.

As part of Aldi’s nationwide programme, he supported new store openings, gaining first-hand exposure to large-scale operations and developed his leadership and teamwork skills. His experience illustrates the breadth of opportunities available to apprentices across the business.

Alex said:

"I loved the hands-on experience and the fact that I've been able to gain a qualification whilst being paid. I started fresh out of university with little understanding of the workplace, but my apprenticeship changed that. It helped me to become more confident as a person in and out of work."

The programme also places strong emphasis on personal development, something Alex says has been transformative.

“Working at Aldi has given me so much confidence in myself and speaking to new people.”

Alongside practical experience, the Aldi Apprenticeship Programme combines academic learning with real responsibility. Alex added:

“The apprenticeship allowed me to have hands on experience in a management role, it allowed me to learn from the best to strengthen my skills and work on my weaknesses.

“The best part of the apprenticeship is that these skills set you up for life and I’m already so grateful for where it has taken me so far. I’m excited to see how else I could grow!”

When asked what advice he would give to anyone considering applying for an apprenticeship at Aldi, his message is simple and direct:

“Go for it! I’d recommend it to everyone who is willing to work hard in a fast-paced environment and curious to learn.”

Aldi’s apprenticeships are available in both stores and warehouse. In stores, applicants have the option of a Career Starter Apprenticeship or Store Management Apprenticeships.
