Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight day consisted of an overview into banking and finance, this was through educational workshops, trading games, networking, talks from employees and case study sessions. Each day focused on a division covering Investment Banking, Global markets, Research, Risk and Technology. We also heard about diversity and ESG, along with the roles these play in Nomura.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I feel as though an in-depth insight was given to us about the business and different potential roles available which was great. This was through talks and presentations, networking, case study sessions and interactive workshops. I also got assigned a mentor to ask any remaining questions I had about roles the requirements of the roles available.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
During this insight programme financial skills were developed and taught. There was a focus on case study preparation through breaking down and understanding what drives stocks and how financial statements work. We also had a communication session which taught us how to improve our presentation skills and be more confident while speaking to professionals.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture seemed great. The event was very well structured and organised. From the application process the interviewer was very lovely and wanted to help you be comfortable enough to preform your best. Everyone in the company was very happy to chat to you, provide advice and talk about past experiences in entering their role.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight programme. I felt as though you learnt something new during all four days and were able to expeirence and explore not just the division you applied to but all the different divisions within banking and finance as a whole. The information during the workshops was invaluable.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura
I would say to read up on the company especially their ESG policies. To read some of their recent deals, practice numerical tests and psychometric tests, understand what your role consists of and why you want that role. I would say that they should follow the news and have some idea of what is going on in the world economy.
