Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
As a Nomura Explore Programme participant, I was able to gain an early insight into Investment Banking through a unique four-day classroom-based opportunity. The programme featured desk shadowing, networking events, and case study exercises designed to help me understand the fundamental practices and principles of the business.
In addition to these activities, I had the opportunity to participate in several other events throughout the programme, including:
-Economic outlook presentation: I was able to attend a presentation on the economic outlook, which provided valuable insights into the current state of the global economy and how it affects the investment banking industry.
-DE&I panel discussion: I also participated in a panel discussion on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. This gave me the opportunity to learn about the importance of creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, and how Nomura is working to achieve this goal.
-Trading game: I was able to participate in a trading game, which allowed me to experience what it's like to trade in a simulated environment. This helped me to understand the basics of trading and the importance of risk management.
-Networking lunches: Throughout the programme, I attended several networking lunches with professionals from different departments within the bank. This allowed me to build connections and learn more about potential career opportunities within the bank.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
As a participant in the Nomura Explore Programme, it was an incredible experience to gain a deep understanding of the investment banking industry and the potential roles available within Nomura.
Throughout the programme, I had the opportunity to attend presentations by speakers from different divisions within the bank. These sessions provided valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of each division and how they work together to serve clients and drive business success.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
One of the most valuable things I gained from the programme was a deep understanding of the investment banking industry and its fundamental practices and principles. Through case study exercises and desk shadowing, I was able to develop my problem-solving skills and gain insights into how investment bankers approach complex problems.
In addition, the programme provided numerous opportunities for me to improve my communication and interpersonal skills. Networking events and lunch meetings allowed me to connect with professionals from different departments within the bank.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
As a participant in the Nomura Explore Programme, I found the company culture and general atmosphere to be very welcoming and supportive.
One of the things that stood out to me was that, despite being a global financial services firm, Nomura has a relatively small and tight-knit community compared to some of the larger banks. This created a friendly and collaborative environment where people were accessible and open to helping others.
The atmosphere at Nomura was also very professional, but not overly formal or hierarchical. There was a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, and people were encouraged to work together to achieve common goals.

I absolutely loved the Nomura Explore Programme! It was an incredible opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the investment banking industry and the potential career paths available within Nomura.
Not only did I learn a lot about the different functions within an investment bank, but I also had the opportunity to meet and connect with professionals from different departments and levels within Nomura. I found everyone I interacted with to be friendly, approachable, and willing to share their experiences and insights with me.
