Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
During the insight we took part in various different activities. The first day consisted of several panel talks, learning more about the culture and experiences when working at MS. The second and third day consisted of divisional sessions involving trading games, panels, networking events and shadowing. Day four was assessment preparation, and a charity activity. The final day involved three interviews, behavioural and technical, and one group interview.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The panel talks and presentations by several Morgan Stanley workers were very educational. Some involved diagrams on the business structure, and its different revenue streams where as others involved a direct question and answer session where interns could ask people about their experience at the business. We not only learnt a great detail about our specific division, however we were also educated on the other divisions such as IB, IM, Technology and Equity Research.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have not only found myself learning more about the structure and culture of Morgan Stanley, but I have also found myself gaining experience in networking and meeting new people, such as potentailly future colleagues. I personally found my pitching skills developed a lot during this programme, as we did three seperate pitches. This was something I had a lack of experience in before, and it was great to improve my technique and skills.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at Morgan Stanley was demonstrated throughout the whole programme. Not only was there extreme diversity throughout the employees we met, and the interns, but they were all extremely friendly and easy to talk to. We learnt how the company ensures they demonstrate their culture and values, such as giving back, and doing the right thing. This was also reflected in the general atmoshpere, as during networking events everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming.

Would you recommend Morgan Stanley to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Stanley
I would recommend people to apply to the Step in Step Up Programme, as I myself didn't and this made the application process much more competitive, however a lot of other interns did apply to this, and this gave them an edge as not only did they already know some workers at Morgan Stanley, but they also had experience working within the bank. I'd also recommend gaining banking work experience before applying.
