Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
i would prepare breakfasts for guests, clean, give tours and help with equipment hire for hiking and related activities.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
yes i would say so. i had to make connections with the new guests and represent the hostel while often speaking in my second language (spanish). i also had to deal with dietry requirements, and giving out the correct equipment for outdoor activity.

social skills, hospitality skills, sharing a small space with others (sharing a room with 3 strangers), language skills and an insight into hostel life. i learned a lot about necessary gear and equipment for outdoor activity also.
