Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a Finance Trainee at Bidfood, I supported the commercial finance team with financial reporting, reconciliations and analysis. On a day-to-day basis, I used Excel and Power BI to analyse data, produce reports and dashboards, investigate discrepancies and improve reporting processes.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility during my placement. I was trusted to manage and produce regular financial reports independently, complete reconciliations and ensure information was accurate and delivered on time. I was also encouraged to improve existing processes and develop new reports and dashboards using Excel and Power BI.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I developed my Excel and financial analysis skills significantly and gained experience using Power BI to create reports and dashboards. I also improved my communication, problem-solving and time-management skills through working with different teams and managing my own responsibilities.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a good level of support throughout my placement. My manager and colleagues were always available to provide guidance when needed, particularly when learning new tasks, while also giving me the independence to take responsibility for my own work.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was very welcoming and supportive. Everyone was approachable and willing to help, which made it easy to settle into the team. There was a friendly atmosphere while still maintaining a professional working environment.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement and found it a valuable experience. I particularly enjoyed being given real responsibility, developing my finance skills and working as part of a supportive team. It also gave me a much better understanding of working in a professional finance environment.
