Account specialist Review

During my placement at Randstad Student Support, I worked as an Account Specialist within the South team. My role involved supporting a large caseload of students and support workers, responding to queries, matching students with suitable support, arranging sessions and managing timesheets and other daily administration. I also dealt with more sensitive situations, including student wellbeing concerns, so communication, organisation and problem-solving were a big part of my day-to-day role

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility throughout my placement. I managed a caseload of over 300 students and was trusted to handle queries and resolve issues independently, while knowing when something needed to be escalated. I was also involved in coordinating support during busy periods, including exam support for students at the University of Bath. As the year progressed, I became much more confident in making decisions, prioritising my workload and taking ownership of my responsibilities

Definitely. I developed my communication, organisation and problem-solving skills significantly. Managing a large caseload taught me how to prioritise effectively, manage my time and stay organised in a fast-paced environment. I also became much more confident communicating professionally with students, support workers and university contacts, particularly when handling sensitive or challenging situations. Working a full-time 9–5 role also taught me discipline, consistency and how to manage the demands of a professional working routine. Overall, the experience made me much more confident working independently

I received a really good level of support throughout my placement. I felt supported by both the university and my team at Randstad, which made the transition into a full-time professional role much easier. I was also fortunate to have a very supportive manager who created an environment where I felt comfortable asking lots of questions, especially while I was still learning. As I became more confident and independent, I always knew that guidance was available whenever I needed it. Overall, I felt well supported while still being given the space to develop and take responsibility for my own work

The company culture was really positive, friendly and supportive. I felt welcomed into the team from the beginning and there was a strong sense of teamwork, with everyone willing to help each other during particularly busy or challenging periods

I really enjoyed my placement and found it to be such a valuable experience. It was my first experience of working full-time in a 9–5 role, so adjusting to a completely new routine and way of life was a big change for me, but one that I really enjoyed. I also met some lovely people throughout the year and really enjoyed being part of a team
