As a Signalling Technician Apprentice, I work alongside experienced signalling technicians carrying out maintenance, testing and fault-finding activities on railway signalling equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme as it provides a good balance between practical experience and classroom learning. I have gained valuable knowledge and skills while working with experienced colleagues and learning about signalling systems. The programme is helping me build confidence, develop my technical abilities and progress towards becoming a competent Signalling Technician.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have gained experience using signalling tools and test equipment, interpreting diagrams and technical documentation, and following Network Rail standards and safe systems of work. I have developed my knowledge of railway signalling systems and improved my practical skills in maintenance, inspection and fault-finding activities.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The apprenticeship programme is well organised and provides a clear structure for both workplace learning and formal training. Training could be planned in a little better as courses can get cancelled abruptly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a high level of support from my employer. My manager, mentor and colleagues are always willing to provide guidance, answer questions and help me develop my knowledge and skills.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider offers good support throughout my apprenticeship. Regular reviews, progress meetings and feedback help me stay on track with my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification supports my role by developing my understanding of signalling principles, safety requirements and industry standards. It helps me link the theory learned through training to the practical tasks I carry out in the workplace.
