Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I love the job. It's physical, with elements in the office and everyday is different. The work you do is never the same and can vary from small jobs like knocking in clips to large scale renewals on full track. I like the people I work with and everyday is genuinely exciting to me.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

When I go on a course my dinner and hotel is fully paid for, the training is fully comprehensive (both Network Rail and Inspiro) and the work is always fun. The only issue is there is a lot of coursework but if you keep on top of it, it is manageable.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt so many new skills. I went from working in an office for years to working with my hands and using power tools an small plant machines. Network Rail will give you all the skills you need to do the job
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

There were a few issues with the programme at the start with dates and times of courses, lack of communication between students and mentors however these have ironed themselves out and now runs pretty efficiently. They are always trying to improve the programme which is a positive for the apprentices
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive immense support from my employer. Any worries or additional support I have needed has been taken into account for courses and activities

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The assignments and courses I complete seem to be directly linked to the work I do and it makes me think about what I am doing and why I am doing it. It makes it more relatable and fun
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

For Christmas we often go out as a depot for a drink when the holidays start. We also go for a team dinner for Christmas. Rail Live is a good event that gets you to network with brands and manufacturers of some of the equipment we use and they can be really helpful

Why?
It's a great company and once you're in the company it is a job for life. So many apprentices I have spoken to who have passed and are still here say they can't see themselves leaving because of the perks you get, and the job is so rewarding.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
Throw yourself in the deep end and give it your all. You get what you give with this apprenticeship and you put your all into it then you'll be rewarded
