Audit and Tax Spring Intern Review

They paid for a hotel for me to stay in for the duration of the programme, as well as the train ticket to Manchester. All activities were in the hotel so no travelling at all. The insight gave me an introduction to both Audit and Tax through presentations, networking and practical case studies. On a day-to-day basis, I worked with other students on a bank financing case, where we analysed financial information and ratios, considered risks such as impairment and net realisable value, and presented our conclusions. We also had the opportunity to speak with Deloitte employees at different levels, which helped me understand what their roles involve and what working at Deloitte is like.

It was really useful to learn more about the different areas within Deloitte and the range of roles available. Hearing directly from employees gave me a much clearer idea of what the work actually involves day to day and how different teams work together. It also helped me understand which areas interested me most and what skills are important for different roles and I have chosen to continue with Deloitte for a summer internship in Audit.

I definitely developed my teamwork and communication skills, especially from working with other people on the case study and then presenting our ideas. I also got more confident working with financial information and thinking through different risks, which was quite new to me at the time.

The atmosphere was really welcoming and friendly. Everyone we spoke to was approachable and happy to answer questions, and it felt like there was a strong focus on working together. I also liked that we got to speak to people at different levels, as it gave us a good sense of what it would actually be like to work there.

I really enjoyed the insight, especially getting to work on a practical case study rather than just hearing about the different roles. It was also nice being able to meet people from Deloitte and ask them questions about their own experiences. Overall, I found it really interesting and it gave me a much better idea of what working at Deloitte would actually be like.

Yes

I’d say do some research beforehand so you have a good idea of what Deloitte does and which areas interest you, but don’t feel like you need to know everything already. Be yourself during the process and make the most of any opportunities to ask questions and speak to people, as that was one of the most useful parts for me.
