Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I shadow senior colleagues to gain in the field experience and complete training courses for competencies I will need to fufill my future job role as a signalling technician. I complete maintenance tasks, i perform corrective maintenance and i fault find on various assets in my day to day. I also complete various course work assignments and workshops which is based around the principles of the industry with my NVQ tailored more to my day to day job role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really like the job and the company I work for but a lot of the course work has either errors or doesn't really relate to my job role, with many questions exactly the same but worded differently throughout the apprenticeship. The time to complete some of this could be better used to challenge our knowledge or progress with more technical questions that relate directly to the work we will be doing.

Again the course work definitely needs revision this is clear by the amount of errors in the power points or incorrect information.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive all of the support I need. Every question will have a department or person that can help with general or specific needs.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive all of the support I would need to complete my qualifications through my line manager who is very helpful and my ADC's who again are very helpful and encourage me to ask them if I ever need support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

There is progress reviews and progress monitoring to ensure I am on track within my role. It can give a new perspective and shows the importance of how health and safety is looked at, also the industry as a whole if you do not have much experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there is many events to attend including teams calls for many foundations, charity events, celebrations of service, apprenticeship celebrations, mental health meetings.

Why?
The job itself is very rewarding and there is a clear career path within in it, but you are not limited to one discipline or job role. There are many opportunities for everyone to take advantage of including further training in your role if you so wish to find something that suits your skillset.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
To work hard and give it your all as it is a great opportunity.
