Intern Review

During my three-week law internship, I was able to gain an insight into the daily work of a legal professional and experience the working environment of a law firm. My role involved a range of tasks, including legal research, reviewing documents, and observing how cases were handled. I also had the opportunity to listen to calls/meetings in order to gain a better understanding of how solicitors communicate with clients and other professionals .

As my placement was only three weeks, I was given a suitable level of responsibility for an intern. I was mainly responsible for completing tasks assigned to me such as, carrying out research, reviewing as well as understanding information from documents and having a go at drafting letters. I was trusted to work independently on certain tasks, while having support and guidance when needed.

I became more confident in asking questions and seeking clarification when I was unsure about something. I also gained confidence in a corporate environment, particularly when speaking and communicating with different people. The internship also helped me develop a stronger understanding of commercial law and the wider objectives of clients. I also strengthened my skills when working independently, whilst also learning how to work effectively as part of a professional team.

I received a great deal of support and guidance during my placement. I was given many opportunities to network and ask questions, and my supervisors were always open, approachable, and helpful. I also received constructive feedback on the tasks I completed, which helped me improve and develop my skills. Overall, I felt very supported throughout my placement, while also being given enough responsibility to work independently and build my confidence.

The company had a very collegiate environment, with everyone being helpful, friendly, and welcoming. There was a warm atmosphere, and people genuinely seemed invested in supporting and helping you develop.

I had a really positive experience and gained a much better understanding of practical and commercial law, as well as the wider client objectives. I was able to develop and strengthen a range of skills, learn a lot, and gain confidence in a professional environment. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience.
